Crossword contest to mark fight against Covid-19

With cities across the country making a determined fight-back in the face of Covid-19 and the resulting lock-down, it is time to celebrate the indomitable human spirit. To mark a determined progress on the way to normalcy and pay tribute to the resilience of the human mind, an online crossword challenge is being organized on June 13, 2021.

The challenge will be hosted on the website between 11 am and noon (1100 hours and 1200 hours). There will be two categories in the contest – Student Category and Open Category. A participant may play in only one of the two categories.

The event will be conducted by Extra-C, a civil society initiative based in Patna. The day coincides with its eighth anniversary and is named Extra-C Anniversary Crossword test (ExACT).

The Student Category will allow students from schools and institutes of higher education to enter the game while the Open Category with a higher level of difficulty will be open to seniors. The students, who are eligible for both categories, will have to decide before opening the puzzle page. Once they open the Open Category page, they can’t shift to the Student Category page and vice-versa.

The students who are already participants of Extra-C’s year-long online contests ACAD and ACAD+ need not register afresh and may enter the game either through the website or the link sent to them using the existing username and password. Students who are not part of either of the contests, will have to register free of cost to play the game.

Similarly, those who are already part of the ACAD Senior don’t need to register afresh and may play in the Open Category using the existing username and password. Others will have to register to get a username and password to enter the game.

The organization, set up in 2013, is at the forefront of organizing learning-based activities among students and the adults. Its focus is on promoting crosswords as a learning tool by enhancing English language communication skills. Many central and state school boards have collaborated with the organization for promoting the mind game in schools affiliated to them. Extra-C has an understanding with NavodayaVidyalayaSamiti (NVS) and Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) for conducting crossword skill enhancing events among their students. Schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and KendriyaVidyalayaSangathan (KVS) too have been part of the events organized by Extra-C.
